University

Omsk State Technical University is a modern technical university with well-developed educational, scientific and production infrastructure. We have all you need for studying and comfortable accommodation: 15 educational buildings which are close to each other, dormitories, media center, sports center and much more. You can find modern equipment and free Wi-Fi in all classes; educational buildings are connected with warm passageways. Studying at our university is available for special needs students: we follow principles of inclusive education and have conditions such as wheelchair ramps, special places in library and signal buttons in every class. 

There’re more than 17000 students, and 3000 foreign students are among them – our university is a leader in that sense. Every student can find something for themselves, whether it’s science, creative activities, public life, sport or business.

The university maintains relations with leading educational, industrial and research organizations of Russia, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Italy, Austria, South Korea, etc. We also have 16 departments created in cooperation with organizations, which lets the students not only study on the account of the organization, but also get a job at that organization right after graduation.

The university has developed a system that supports students’ research and innovation activity. Students take part in competitions at different level since the first year of studying.

The university has an innovative structure which includes 19 research and educational resource centers, 27 small innovative enterprises, dozens of research laboratories, as well as 34 design engineering departments and student research laboratories where students put their theoretical knowledge into practice. There’s also a business center “Business Factory” which supports students’ business ideas and helps with their realization.

There’re many possibilities to achieve one’s physical potential in OmSTU. Sports club “Polytechnic” organizes students sport events, finances student sport teams. There’re several sections which include the following types of sport: volleyball, basketball, football, athletics, powerlifting, Greco-Roman wrestling, sambo (martial arts), swimming, aerobics, skiing, tennis, table tennis, hockey, orienteering, chess, and cybersport. Everyone can choose whatever sport they want, take part in competitions and even be included in a university’s team and represent the university at regional level. 

The pool was created in 2018. It’s available not only for OmSTU students, but for everyone who would like to visit it.

The pool was created in the frame of United Russia political party’s project “500 swimming pools”.

Modern materials and equipment were used in the building of this pool, unique multistage water filer system in particular: ozone treatment, quartz sand and activated coal filtration, heating, special chemical treatment and acid-base balance adjustment. Pool’s length – 25 meters (82ft), width – 16 meters (52ft). The pool has 6 lanes with depth from 1.2 m (4ft) up to 1.8 m (6ft). There’re changing rooms (each for 50 people), shower, 2 dry steam saunas.

International activity is well-developed at our university which lets students and teachers undertake internships abroad and lets foreign students take part in exchange programs. At the moment there’re 55 agreements with universities in CIS, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, China, Portugal, Czech Republic, etc.

The following projects in the frame of Erasmus Modus Action 2 are being realized:

- Towards Excellence in Engineering Curricula for Dual Education, which includes 16 partners from 8 countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, Finland, Russia, China, Cambodia, and India). Project coordinator - Universitat Rovira i Virgili

- Sustainable Development for Lifelong Learning which includes 24 partners from 8 countries (Poland, Austria, Portugal, Ireland, Sweden, Belgium, Russia, Kazakhstan). Project coordinator - Warsaw University of  Natural Science.

Another important direction of work is development of student’s international cooperation and realization of humanitarian projects such as Summer school of Russian language and country studies, as well as Russian-Chinese Youth business incubator   

OmSTU is the only university in the region that has dormitories within walking distance from the educational buildings. The dormitory is available only for students of full-time programs. There’re six dormitories with rooms for 2-3 people per room. All dormitories are up to sanitary standards. 

Our library is the largest university library in the region. There’re more than 8 million electronic and printed publications.

The main advantage of the library’s collection is that it’s available 24/7. There’re media centers and library rooms in 4 educational buildings opened 6 days a week.

The main principle of our library is to offer as many resources and services to a person as possible. Comfortable places for working and studying, modern technology and cozy atmosphere make this library a perfect place for your activity.

Students and employees have access to more than 75 databases, 55 of which are available online and are constantly being updated.

Media centers and reference rooms have Wi-Fi. Here you can borrow a laptop. Electronic system “Arbuz” will help you find needed publication among the wide range of electronic resources, as well as get access to full-text university’s  and commercial library systems’ publications.
