This faculty was created in 1993. It’s one of the largest faculties at the university.
Humanitarization of engineering education and unity of liberal arts and sciences are at the base of education at this faculty. Its fields of study may be interesting for active, creative and motivated people.
There’re yearly international, all-Russian and regional conferences. The faculty also has “Translator in professional communication sphere” program which lets the students get second higher education in addition to the first one.

1. History, philosophy and social communication
This department teaches the following subjects for all OmSTU fields of study:
· Russian language and speech culture
· Philosophy
· Sociology and political science
· History
· Russian history
· World outlook safety basics
Apart from having traditional forms of studying such as lectures and seminars, the department also has role-plays, brainstorming classes, training of communicative competence, internet-conferences, film watching classes.
2. Labor and organizational psychology
The department was established in 2002 in order to train specialists in the field of corporate psychology.
The department has a field of study 37.05.02 “Occupational psychology” with major “Psychological support of law enforcement employees”. Specialists in this field of study are engaged in prevention of social conflicts, emergencies related to technology and natural disasters, support employees of law enforcement forces, The Ministry of Emergency Situations, etc. Creation of this field of study is connected with a high psychological stress level in security ministries and individual, interpersonal and social peculiarities of the work.

3. Foreign Languages
The department is engaged in teaching the following subjects for all University’s fields of study:
English, German, French for students of 1-4 years of study
Negotiations in foreign language (for students of economics and management faculty)
Machine translation
Foreign language for “Economics” field of study (Bachelor’s degree)
Foreign language for master’s program
English, German, French for beginners
Foreign language training for doctoral entrance exams
Students can also apply for “Professional Communication Interpreter/Translator” 2-year program. Curriculum includes the following subjects:
Colloquial English
Business English
Profession-oriented English
Business letters
Consecutive translation
English phonetics
English grammar
Translation theory
Introduction to linguistics
Russian stylistics and speech culture
Regional geography
Apart from studying, students take part in yearly events such as language club meetings, English song festival, competitions.
4. Physical Education and Sport
The department is mainly responsible for such subjects as “Physical education” and ‘Applied physical education”. Apart from that, it organizes the following activities:

Powerlifting
Sambo (martial arts: self-defense without weapon)
5. Government and municipal control, customs affairs
This department trains specialists in the following fields of study:
1. 38.03.04 Government and municipal control. Students get excellent knowledge in economics, management and labor, administrative, civil, land law, office administration; have skills for using modern organization and human resources management technologies.
2. 38.05.02 Customs affairs. Students get knowledge both in jurisprudence and economics, which makes it possible for students to work not only at customs and law enforcement services, but also governmental and private companies engaged in foreign economics.
