This faculty trains specialists in areas connected with IT and automated production management. In cooperation with leading IT, computer systems and robotics organizations, this department introduces unique inventions used for mass production and solving specific problems.

Students undertake internships in leading IT companies, oil and gas and machine engineering enterprises.

Creative thinking of our students is determined by project oriented education, which includes computer practice classes, course projects and conferences. Students do research on following themes:  software engineering, computational geometry and computer graphics, geomatics, IT in economics and management, computer science of dynamic systems, distributed information processes.

1.     Computer science and computer technology

This department was founded in 1971 and is the first one in Omsk that started training engineers for computer-assisted information processes, computer and microrpocessor systems, management systems with use of information technologies in technical, scientific and educational fields. Department’s graduates have excellent knowledge in mathematics, mathematical modeling methods, modern software and network information technologies.

2.     Automated Systems for Information Processing and Management

Teachers and students at this department are mostly engaged in research on development of automated systems software. Key priorities here are system and processes analysis, simulation modeling, forecasting and optimization, development and use of decision support system. Another important research field is information technologies in education. All research results are presented at “Information technologies and management automation” conference.

3.     Automation and robotics

Students of this department have the possibility to get theoretical and applied knowledge on automation means and systems. Key skills and research fields include: analysis of measuring systems and devices operation capability, automated management systems maintenance, control of automated systems during operation, instruments reading. Apart from that, students study such subjects as theory of automated systems, information technology, engineering and computer graphics, electronics, programming and algorithm development basics, microprocessor control units in engineering systems, economics and production management, electromechanical systems, intellectual management technologies, integrated design engineering and management systems.

4.     Applied mathematics and computer science fundamentals

Students of this department conduct in-depth research on mathematics, theoretical computer science, system and problem-oriented programming. Graduates get fundamental knowledge connected with key information technologies problems such as technologies for software systems development, information security, supercomputers and programming, Internet technology, local and global networks, corporate database management systems.

Graduates of this department:

• Can use modern mathematical methods and software for solving scientific, technical, economical and management problems;

• Have appropriate knowledge and skills for conducting independent research in such fields as applied mathematics and theoretical computer science, as well as skills for new IT development;

• Know scientific and methodical IT methods and standards, use it for developing new IT systems, products and services;

• Know modern technologies connected with computer-aided design, IT products and services, modern paradigms and programming languages.

5.     Geometry in engineering and computer-aided design

This department is one of the first ones and was founded in 1942.

First- and second-year students of all university’s technical fields of study do research on descriptive geometry, engineering graphics, computer graphics, etc.

Research and education center “Autodesk-OmGTU” where students study Autodesk’s software products (AutoCAD, Inventor, 3D max, ArchiCAD,  Civil, etc.).

6.     Mathematical methods and information technologies in economics

Studying at this department is organized with focus on close scientific and educational relations with famous software developers (Satori Consulting).

Students of this department use modern computer-aided design systems, computer science and programming development, fundamental and special engineering subjects in research and economical design.

Graduates get top positions at state and private companies, governmental departments, and develop modern information technologies.

Course projects and theses on development and introduction of software determine prospect for development and let us support relations with potential clients, as well as meet modern market demands.
