Machine engineering is one of the leading branches of economy in Omsk. There are machine engineering enterprises, design engineering and research organizations of Russian and international importance. Machine engineering institute trains highly qualified specialists for successful functioning of this industry.

Cutting-edge educational technology and equipment are used in the studying process. There are research and production resource centers “Modern machine engineering technology”, “Welding in construction” and “Metal forming and foundry technologies”. Not only can students train to master blue-collar occupations at these centers, but also fulfil orders for industrial enterprises.

The Institute trains specialists in the frame of federal plan “New personnel for defense complex” for such organizations as Roscosmos, Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, as well as specialists for former Republics of the USSR.

Comprehensive training in such fields as mechanics, electric machinery, industrial and information electronics, management systems and means let our graduates work successfully at design engineering and start and adjustment companies, as well as at different industrial enterprises.

List of departments:

1.     Machine engineering technology

One of the main research fields of this department is accuracy in mechanical assembley production. Main scientific achievemnts that became widely known: dimensional technological calculation with use of graph theory; electrochemical and electrophysical machining; reliability of fixed detail coupling in machines and reinforcing technology.

In 2014 Omsk State Technical University signed an agreemnent with Omsk Machine Engineering Design Department and created a joint department “Gas turbine engine production”. This department coordinates studyng, methodical and research activities in the following field of study:

15.03.05 Design-engineering support of machine engineering production (Bachelor’s degree 4 or 5 years, depends on the program mode)

2.     Metal-cutting machines and tools

This department was created in 1944-1945 and since its foundation it has been teaching the following subjects: metal-cutting machines, cutting theory, design engineering and production of metal-cutting tools.

In 1967 there were created three research and three educational laboratories for the relevant subjects.

In 2008 has created Innovation and educational machine engineering resource center, where you can find unique machining facilities, training room with different types of computer numerical control, EMCO 450 TURN machines, tool and cutter CNC Grinding Machine VIZAS VZ-700F4.

Fields of study:

Bachelor’s degree – 15.03.05 Design engineering support of machine engineering production, major – Metal-working machines and complexes

Master’s degree – 15.04.05 Design engineering support of machine engineering production

3.     Machine engineering and material science

This department is divided into four sections:

  • Material science and engineering material technology

Field of study: Material science and material technology (Bachelor’s degree 22.03.01 and Master’s degree 22.04.01)

What do students study: descriptive geometry and computer graphics, computer science, material mechanics and design principles, electrical engineering and electronics, metrology, machine engineering technology principles, thermal metal treating, forming technology, control of material quality.

  • Machines and foundry technology

Students get knowledge of automated lines, uncrewed aerial vehicles, development of wear-resistant alloys. They can also use computers in development of foundry processes.

Field of study: Machine engineering (Bachelor’s degree 15.03.01 and Master’s degree 15.04.01). Major: Machines and foundry technology (Bachelor’s degree).

  • Machines and metal forming

This section’s main research area is precision forging (cold pressing, hot pressing and warm pressing) and sheet-metal forming.

Graduates work as foremen, production engineers, chairmen.

Fields of study:

Bachelor’s degree – 15.03.01 Machine engineering, major - Machines and metal forming

Master’s degree – 15.04.01 Machine engineering, major - Machines and metal forming

  • Welding technology and equipment

Students of this section study design engineering, development and operation of welding technology and equipment: plasma-arc welding and buildup, cutting and spraying, plastic and rubber-covered material welding, non-ferrous metal and alloy welding, electroslag process, electron-beam and diffusion vacuum welding, use of computers in welding processes.

Fields of study:

Bachelor’s degree – 15.03.01 Machine engineering

Specialist’s degree – 15.05.01 Technological machine and complexes engineering

Master’s degree – 15.04.01 Machine engineering

PhD candidate (Aspirant) – 15.06.01 Welding, allied processes and technology

4.     Technological complex operation

This department is situated at “Vysokie technologii” company.

Field of study (on the account of the company): Design engineering support of machine engineering production (Bachelor’s degree 15.03.05 and Master’s degree 15.04.05).
